Description
of Workshops----------------------------------------------------------
This Hip-Hop Writing Workshop, instructed by Head-Roc, centers
on cultural expression by creating, producing, and performing
original songs with groups of Washington, DC youth participants.
Each workshop is tailored to meet the needs of sponsoring organizations,
with a range of formats available and varied lengths. All Workshops
consist of various timed hands-on sessions geared towards engaging
participants in a real time "brainstorming" process to discuss
the challenges they face in today's world. There are three basic
components:
The first workshop component is dedicated to developing and creating
songs based on themes of social interests the participants will
decide on. Each workshop participant will be asked to help develop
the individual song concepts, write lyrics, select music, and
collaborate creatively with their peers.
In the second component, participants will record the song creations
they came up with. This will be an instruction on studio recording,
and leave the participants with a concrete achievement - a audio
CD of their work.
The third workshop component is about developing a live performance
routine of the participants design for concert program presentation
at the conclusion of the workshop.
The Hip-Hop Writing Workshop is specially designed to stimulate/enhance/merge
artistic expression and critical thinking on issues and concerns
of individual participants within a group setting.
Please listen to the results from various workshops conducted
by Head-Roc this year (2009)! ------------> Enjoy!
