Hiphop, a Muted Revolution.
As with any society, when the underprivileged and oppressed have had enough of the unfair conditions they face and live in, the
tendency to rise up and rebel against the ruling authority becomes the only way out. Hiphop was one such movement. It was a
creative medium for non-violent dissent against the status-quo. It never saw it's secondary phase because of the negative
attention it got from Congress, and was therefore quickly assimilated into the mainstream entertainment machine. The rhetoric
was toned down and Hiphop became bubble gum fodder with meaningless phrases spewed out at the masses for consumption.
In other words, don't talk about social reform, prejudice treatment of minorities or highlight the gestapo like practises of the
government, but barble all you want about "bitches and ho's", expensive clothing and automobiles and you've got yourselves a
winner. The truth is Hiphop is a hijacked revolution that had a lot of potential in educating and uplifting it's targeted audience
towards a much prosperious future. With the help of talented and "conscious" artists, the likes of which we witnessed at
Head-roc's "single" release bash, hiphop will one day regain it's TRUE cause in our so-called democratic society.
Always be conscious.
