As Real As Fiction (Studio Thugs)
First, let me start this off by saying much respect to Head-Roc for letting a brotha' get down and say a little something. I do appreciate it, fa' sho'. Secondly, to the Emcees, do not take any of what I say personally and for those who do, ask yourself why? In time, I am sure you'll find that the reasons lead right back to you. Finally, this is for the Love of the culture, and more specifically the art & science of Emceeing, or lack there of. All constructive criticism stems from the Love y'all.
So, with all disclaimers aside, let us begin. The first issue I feel that needs to be addressed is, without a doubt, the "Studio Thug". These two words command a response of either utter disgust, or paranoia of being exposed... either way the skirt's getting yanked.
See, the problem with the "Studio Thug" is this: Not only are they suffering from a severe identity crisis, but they also have the nerve to insult our intelligence with their pathetic charade, and should anyone question their "Gangsta", [we are] Haters all around. As for myself, I learned at an early age to respect The Game. The foundation of which is realizing you don't know that man or woman. You don't know what they've been through, or what they are willing to do to get to where they wanna be, and vice versa. Nowadays, Thug Life has even more capital potential than ever in the music industry. Enter the "Studio Thug". Now I don't hate on anyone in the Rap Game, but it's as simple as this: if you ain't' do it [then] why say you did? Sooner or later maneuvering through this industry, the real thugs will make their presence known. Sooner or later the Truth will come to surface. Hopefully there is something to learn from Nas and Prodigy's demise. What y'all think?
Check YA' Head,
I.M.C.
